Current Fishing Conditions
Kenai River
June is an exceptional month for fishing on the Kenai River. Anglers can expect excellent opportunities for sockeye and silver salmon. The recent regulations have ensured that the fish populations are healthy and abundant.
- Sockeye Salmon: The sockeye salmon run is in full swing, with daily catches reported consistently high. The bag limit for sockeye salmon is now six per day, 12 in possession, providing ample opportunities for anglers to fill their coolers.
- Silver Salmon: Although the peak season for silver salmon is later in the summer, early catches are being reported. These fish are known for their acrobatic fights and make for exciting fishing.
Kasilof River
The Kasilof River is also bustling with activity this June. The hatchery king salmon run is strong, offering excellent fishing opportunities.
- Hatchery King Salmon: Anglers are reporting successful trips with many landing hatchery king salmon. The bag limit for hatchery kings is two per day, and the use of single-hook artificial lures is required.
- Sockeye Salmon: Similar to the Kenai, the sockeye salmon run on the Kasilof is thriving. With the increased bag limits, it’s a great time to target these fish.

The extended area for the youth-only fishery on the Ninilchik River now allows fishing from the mouth of the river to the 2-mile markers near the Garrison Ridge Road bridge.
