3/4 Day Fishing Trips

The Kenai River is famous for its powerful salmon runs, and 2025 is shaping up to be another action-packed year for anglers heading to Alaska. With early reports pointing toward strong returns for sockeye and silver salmon, it’s the perfect season to hit the water with Kenai Fly Fish, one of the most experienced guide services on the river.

📊 Forecast Highlights for 2025

According to preseason estimates and early sonar counts, here’s what anglers can expect this summer:

  • Sockeye Salmon: Strong numbers expected to arrive between late June and early August, with 6-fish daily limits in effect from June 20 through August 15

  • Silver Salmon: Predicted to peak in late July through mid-September, offering fast-paced, hard-hitting action

  • Pink Salmon: Bonus species during even-numbered years like 2025—great fun for kids and light tackle

  • Rainbow Trout & Dollies: Thriving behind the sockeye run, especially strong from August through October

Ian McDonald, founder of Kenai Fly Fish and a lifelong Alaskan, has seen more than 19 salmon seasons and knows how to adapt each trip to the best fishing window.

🛶 Tailored Trips for Every Run

Kenai Fly Fish times every charter to match peak activity:

  • Drift Boat Trips on the quiet waters of the Kasilof

  • Jet Boat Access to productive mid-river holes on the Kenai

  • Flexible start times and launch locations based on daily river reports

  • Half-day to full-day trips, with all gear and fish filleting included

Whether you’re after fresh sockeye for the grill or silvers that leap like steelhead, each trip is customized to give anglers the best shot at action.

🐠 Why Sockeye and Silvers Are the Stars of 2025

With king salmon closed again this year, the focus turns to sockeye and coho—and that’s a good thing. These species are:

  • Abundant and consistent during their run windows

  • High-quality meat fish that freeze and cook beautifully

  • Aggressive fighters—especially silvers, which leap, shake, and crash bait

Sockeye are a favorite for clients who want to hit their limit and take fish home, while silvers offer some of the most exciting rod-bending action of the entire year.

  • Scenic wilderness landscapes every mile of river
