When it comes to Gear, here is what you need to know. Long before the first client steps into the boat, May is the month of intense preparation for professional guides on the Kenai Peninsula.
Spooling Up (Gear)
Mastering Gear
We strip every inch of last year's line off our reels. For Sockeye fishing, we spool up with fresh, high-abrasion 30lb to 40lb monofilament. For our King and Silver rods, we run fresh 65lb high-vis braid paired with premium fluorocarbon top-shots.
Boat Maintenance
Outboards are serviced, lower unit oil is changed, and drift boat oars are sanded and re-varnished. The boats are our offices, and they need to be flawless when the 100-day grind begins in June.
