As most anglers know by now, the Kenai River King Salmon fishery is facing heavy conservation restrictions. But the good news for May anglers is the Kasilof River Hatchery King Salmon run.
Why the Kasilof? (King Salmon)
Mastering King Salmon
The Kasilof River is a smaller, drift-only river located just south of the Kenai. It receives a massive plant of hatchery King Salmon smolt. These returning adults are actively managed for harvest, making it the perfect destination for May and June anglers looking to take home some incredibly rich King Salmon fillets.
Early May Tactics
The fish entering the river in early May are the vanguard of the run. We are back-trolling with Kwikfish and Mag Wiggle Warts wrapped with fresh sardine fillets. Because the water is low and clear, scent and precision boat control are the keys to triggering a strike.
